CAM Photo Contest Rules

Winning Photos will be used to produce a 2026 calendar to sell and raise funds for the Canadian Aviation Museum programs.

1. Eligibility
  • The contest is open to museum visitors/volunteers/members, and general public.  
  • All participants must be18 years of age.
2.  Theme
  • Photos must feature aircraft, artifacts, or aviation-related displays at the Canadian Aviation Museum.
  • Creativity, originality, and storytelling through the image will be considered.
3.  Entry Process
  • All information can be found at www.canadianaviationmuseum.ca
  • All persons interested must enter online by completing the registration form and submitting the $25 fee. 
  • Your fee gives you admission to the museum for any of the contest days for shooting photos. 
  • One person per entry. 
  • Last day to enter is Oct. 22 at 3:00 pm.
4.  Submission Guidelines
  • Photos must be taken at the Canadian Aviation Museum during the contest period. 
  • The contest period is considered as the following dates and times that photos need to be taken o Wednesday Oct. 22 – 1:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. o Thursday Oct. 23 –   11:00 am to 4:00 pm  o Saturday Oct. 25 – 11:00 am to 3:00 pm 
  • Acceptable formats: JPEG or PNG, no more than 600 pixels.
  • No watermarks, logos, or identifying marks on submissions.
  • No use of AI.
  • No significant changes of imagery with the use of editing software such as Photoshop or Illustrator, simple editing allowed. 
  • Photos must be the original work of the participant.
  • Each participant may submit up to 3 photos.
  • Deadline for photo entries is October 31 at 4:00 pm, late entries will not be accepted.
  • Submit entries by email to ptalbot@canadianaviationmuseum.ca  or thumb drive submitted to museum during open hours. 
  • Include your name, contact information, and the photo title/caption.
5.  Judging
  • Entries will be judged by a panel selected by the museum to include museum Marketing team, professional photographers and Board President. 
  • Criteria: Creativity (25%), Composition (25%), Relevance to theme (25%), Impact and Storytelling (15%) Overall impact and presentation (10%).
  • Judges’ decisions are final.
6.  Prizes
  • First Prize; 25 min Flight in our Chipmunk WWII trainer, cover photo on calendar, including one month in calendar.  One month cover photo on our FB page, recognition on our website with hyperlink to business if applicable, one-year complimentary family membership to CAM.
  • Second Prize; one month in calendar and cover page on our FB page, recognition on website with hyperlink to business, if applicable and one-year complimentary family membership to CAM.
  • Third Prize; One month in calendar and cover page on our FB page, recognition on website with hyperlink to business if applicable and one-year complimentary family membership to CAM.
  • 8 honourable mentions; one month in calendar and on FB cover page for one month and website recognition.
  • All winners to receive a free calendar.  
7.  Rights & Permissions
  • By entering, participants grant the Canadian Aviation Museum the right to use submitted photos for marketing, promotional, educational, or exhibition purposes. 
  • Only the winners will be credited on promotional calendar.
  • By participating, you accept all Rules, Terms and Conditions and you warrant that you meet the eligibility requirements. You must be the author of the photos submitted to the contest.
8.  Conduct
  • Photos must respect museum property, staff, volunteers, and visitors. (photos of our visitors is not permitted)
  • Do not climb on aircraft, enter restricted areas, or move exhibits for photos.
  • Any entries taken in violation of museum safety rules will be disqualified.
9.  Notification
  • Winners will be announced on Nov. 6 via email or phone call.

Judging Criteria

Creativity & Originality (25%)
  • Unique perspective or angle.
  • Fresh, imaginative approach to aviation photography.
  • Goes beyond a “snapshot” feel.
Composition & Technical Quality (25%)
  • Clear subject, balanced framing, and use of space.
  • Lighting and focus used effectively.
  • Proper exposure and sharpness.
Relevance to Theme (25%)
  • Strong connection to aviation and the museum setting.
  • Highlights aircraft, exhibits, or the spirit of flight.
  • Captures something that tells the story of the museum.
Impact & Storytelling (15%)
  • Immediate “wow” factor.
  • Emotional pull or sense of wonder.
  • Makes the viewer want to know more about the plane or moment.
Presentation (10%)
  • Clean, high-quality file (not blurry, pixelated, or watermarked).
  • Title or caption enhances the meaning of the image.
