First Flight of the Avro Arrow (25-March-1958)

March 25, 1958 marks the anniversary of the first flight of Avro Arrow. Aircraft RL-201 was piloted by Avro’s Chief Developmental Test Pilot – Jan Zurakowsi. The Canadian designed CF-105 Arrow test program would eventually see the aircraft fly at just under twice the speed of sound in level flight.
In 1997, the CBC produced a mini series about the aircraft titled ‘The Arrow’ starring Dan Akroyd. A member of our museum (who wishes to remain anonymous) has generously donated one of the original models used in the production of this film. The model is signed by Jan Zurakowski and is on display at our museum.
