Alice’s Airplane – by Erica DeFrane
Many of us at the Canadian Aviation Museum were recently touched by the story of Erica DeFrane, a talented author and artist whose life was deeply inspired by the iconic Windsor Lancaster, FM212.
Erica, who sadly passed away in 2023, penned a series of children’s books. One of those books, “Alice’s Airplane” drew inspiration directly from the Lancaster during its time on display in Jackson Park. Her family recently shared this heartwarming story with the museum, highlighting the aircraft’s enduring impact on Erica.

Since its founding in 1976, Hiatus House has been committed to breaking the cycle of domestic violence throughout Windsor-Essex county.
We provide crisis telephone support and emergency shelter for women and their families in Windsor and area who are fleeing violence and abuse. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week providing help and hope for families faced with domestic violence.

Our team is committed to helping women, children and men live violence-free lives. Hiatus House is funded in large part by the government of Ontario, and through grants and donations from individuals and organizations.
The Canadian Aviation Museum hopes to soon have Alice’s Airplane for sale in book form in our Gift Shop. Proceeds will to go Hiatus House to help break the cycle of domestic violence.
